ORCHESTRE NATIONAL DE RUSSIE
20:00
Mikhaïl Pletnev, conductor
Nikolaï Lugansky, piano
One of the leading figures of 20th century Russian music, Dmitri Shostakovich well deserves to appear in a festival programme dedicated to Mother Russia. His hour will come in the second concert given by the Russian National Orchestra under Mikhaïl Pletnev at the Stravinski Auditorium. The Ninth Symphony is the last of the composer's works inspired by the Second World War. Yet this immense musical fresco also announces the joys of a return to a peaceful life. Nikolaï Lugansky will open this concert with what promises to be an exceptional rendering of Rachmaninoff's Third Piano Concerto. There's no doubting that this excellent representative of the famous Russian piano school will enlighten this brilliant concerto through the elegance of his playing.
