ORCHESTRE DU THÉÂTRE MARIINSKY
19:00
Valery Gergiev, conductor
Alexandre Kantorow, piano
There's no treading the Russian music scene without meeting the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra and its emblematic conductor Valery Gergiev, who's headed this remarkable orchestra for over three decades. Gergiev champions Russian music, both in the symphony and the opera repertoire. For the opening of its first "Window" with a view on Russia, the Septembre Musical will have the honour of welcoming the St. Petersburg musical tsar. In the festival's first symphonic concert, Alexandre Kantorow, the gold medallist of the prestigious International Tchaikovsky Competition, will accompany Gergiev. The programme promises to be a thrill: Prokofiev (excerpts from the ballet Romeo and Juliet) will be in excellent company alongside Tchaikovsky (Piano concerto Nº 2 and Fourth Symphony).
Sergueï Prokofiev (1891-1953)
Excerpts from the ballet Romeo and Juliet op. 64
Piotr Ilyitch Tchaikovsky (1840-1893)
